On Ubuntu smplayer's title name was "Smplayer" and on Gentoo it is "SMPlayer".

Basically whenever I want to play a film in full screen or maximised window the view/film area remains a small rectangle and there's a big black area around that makes up the full screen.

On Gentoo I'm using the Nvidia drivers from the portage tree. When using mplayer or smplayer on Ubuntu I can drag the window to either screen, fullscreen it, and have it fill just one screen.
